Futuristic trends are set by the Japanese company SkyDrive – one of the new flying car startups. It recently showed off its SD-XX, a two-seat eVTOL aircraft roughly the size of a car. Such a vehicle can carry out flights with a range of several tens of kilometers with a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
SkyDrive CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa and a former Toyota engineer said the company plans to launch an air taxi service in metropolitan areas that will carry passengers over the sea. Because it's too risky to start flying over densely populated cities. To increase the pace of development of this project, the company is actively increasing its team and its capacity.
In the plans of the startup – start "breaking in" new cars from round trips to various tourist centers in Japan. The model will fly mostly on autopilot, but it is not a 100% autonomous vehicle. Therefore, the pilot will have to control the flying car in case of an emergency. The purpose of the startup – sell at least 100 cars by 2028.
