The smell of a new car is not for everyone

The automotive giant Ford faced an unusual problem: Chinese customers complain about the specific smell in the interior of a new car twice as often as high fuel consumption. Typically, customers love this heady scent of a new car. However, this does not apply to Ford customers in the Chinese market: in fact, every tenth Chinese driver does not want to feel the “charms” of this aroma of novelty in his car. Based on the fact that the multi-million dollar Chinese market is very important for such a car concern as Ford and for other world car manufacturers, the company decided to patent its invention, which will completely get rid of the smell of a new car.
In the homeland of the Ford brand, in the American automobile culture, the aroma of a brand new interior is very appreciated and important for the car owner, however, the developers of the company realized that Asian culture has completely different views, preferences and tastes. The aroma of "novelty" in the cabin is a combination of smells of paints and varnishes, chemicals and other substances that are used in the manufacture of a car, for fixing parts and sealing joints. Ford plans to get rid of all this chemical extravaganza of smells completely or to make the air in the cabin as neutral as possible. The new patent for development is the result of many years of research in this area, which the company plans to use in the future.
Ford also announced that they intend to change the production process of cars designed for the Chinese market and to conduct high-temperature “baking” of new cars: to park cars in the scorching sun with open doors and the engine, heating system and fan turned on. Buyers from other countries may not worry, the new Fords will still smell like novelty.
