Abandoning leather and internal combustion engines: Volvo surprises
The new statement, which was made by representatives of the automobile company Volvo, surprised the public and delighted supporters of the vegetarian movement.

The fact is that Volvo decided to abandon not only cars with internal combustion engines, but also the use of natural leather in the interior trim of their future electric cars. The Swedes plan to implement all this by 2030.

Volvo plans to focus on electric vehicles and no longer use animal skins from the meat industry in interior design. The representative of the company announced his firm intention to reduce the use of leather in cars manufactured under the Volvo brand. The transition will be gradual. This decision was made by the manufacturer in view of the fact that more and more consumers care about environmental friendliness and animal welfare, not wanting to use products made from genuine leather. While there are many opportunities to replace it with more environmentally friendly materials.

Such measures are part of the company's plan to reduce carbon emissions. Creating a car with an electric power plant without leather elements in interior design – these are the challenges facing Volvo developers by 2030.

In 2020, the company already showed the first electric car without leather, the Polestar 2. And just the other day, Volvo announced a new model of the C40 Recharge electric car – coupe-crossover, in which there is not a single centimeter of genuine leather. Volvo is not the first to announce the abandonment of genuine leather. A similar initiative was previously supported by Audi, BMW, and Tesla has been practicing the creation of interiors without the use of natural leather since 2016. In 2019, Tesla went completely vegan by removing the leather trim from the steering wheel.
